Q:   Where and when does the City Council Meet?

he City Council meets the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 pm in the Fire Garage meeting room located at 110 W. Euclid Street.

Q:   How and where do I pay my property tax bill?

        a:   You can remit payment for your property tax bill to the McBain City Treasurer, PO Box 22, McBain, Michigan  49657

Q:   How and where do I pay my water/sewer/trash bill?

        a:   Water/sewer/trash bill needs to be paid to the City of McBain Service Department.  Payment should be sent to: McBain Service Department,  PO Box 95, McBain, Michigan  49657 or you can drop off payment at the McBain Hardware.

Q:   How do I connect or disconnect water/sewer trash?

        a:   To connect or disconnect water/sewer/trash, contact the City Clerk, Marcia Smith at 231-825-2000.

Q:   When is trash day scheduled?

        a:   Trash day is Friday of each week.  If a holiday occurs on a week day, the trash will be picked up on Saturday that week.

Q:   How do I dispose of leaves, tree limbs and Christmas Trees?

        a:   Leaves may be left at the curb during the fall and our city crew will pick them up.  Brush/branches may also be left at the curb in a separate pill and the city crew will pick them up.  Christmas trees may be left at the curb for pick up.  Please do not bag them.

Q:   What does the daily siren indicate?

        a:   The siren that rings daily is simply a tradition in the city that indicates it is noon.  If a continuous siren is heard at any time other than noon, it indicates an emergency and shelter should be taken.

Q:   What does TIFA and DDA represent?  What do they do and when do they meet?

        a:         DDA – Downtown Development Authority and TIFA – Tax Increment Finance Authority.  

The DDA and TIFA Boards meet the 3rd Monday of each month at the McBain Community Library at 7:00 PM.  

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is a legal entity whose purpose is the encouragement and implementation of economic activity within a defined district created by the City of McBain and embodies the "downtown" business district in the core section of the City.  The DDA is governed by a special board whose members are appointed by the McBain City Council.  

Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) is a legal entity whose purpose is the encouragement and implementation of economic activity within a district completely different in location from the DDA District.  The TIFA District embraces businesses related in nature to manufacturing, distribution and processing of material and goods, power creations, forest products, dairy industry, and certain types of commercial activity.  The TIFA is administered by the board of directors which is composed of the members of the McBain DDA.

Q:   How can I appeal my property tax bill?

        a
:   You can appeal your property tax bill by appearing before the board of review.  They meet in the McBain Fire Garage meeting room on as needed basis in July and December.  To schedule a time to meet with the Board of review, contact Herb Bronkema at 231-825-2084.

Q:   How do I register to vote and where are elections held?

        a:   You may register to vote by contacting our City Clerk, Marcia Smith at 231-825-2000.  All elections are held in the McBain Fire Garage located at 110 W. Euclid.

 Q:   When are the Community garage sales held?

        a:   McBain Community garage sales are held the 2nd weekend in May each year.
